A Canvas is an infinite freeform board. Put things on it, drag them around, draw the shape of an idea before it has a structure.

What goes on a Canvas

• Cards and notes you write in place.
• Your existing records — pull a Scene, an Entity, or a Tome Note onto the board and it stays linked to the real thing.

When a Canvas is the right tool

• Murder-board plotting — suspects, clues, and string.
• Story structure before it’s a structure — when the acts haven’t settled enough for the Board.
• Mapping a theme across books, or a timeline that isn’t linear yet.

The Board is a lens over the Manuscript Tree; a Canvas is a blank table you can spread everything out on. When the shape firms up, move it into the tree — the Canvas doesn’t fight you for ownership.

Layouts persist per-Canvas on disk as plain files, like everything else.
