Read aloud

Hearing your prose is the cheapest revision tool there is. Repeated words, limping rhythm, dialogue nobody would say — the ear catches what the eye forgives.

Press ⌘ ⇧ R in any Scene, or run Read aloud from the Command Palette.

What you get

• Playback from the cursor, with the current word highlighted as it’s spoken — follow along, pause, resume.
• Speed control.
• Two voices to choose from:
  • System voice — your operating system’s built-in speech. Ready immediately.
  • Local voice — an optional one-time download of a neural voice that runs entirely on your machine. Noticeably more natural, and fully offline.

Private by construction

Neither option sends your text anywhere. The system voice is the OS speaking; the local voice is a model running inside Trove. There is no cloud TTS in Trove and no per-word billing meter — read your whole book aloud if you like.

When to use it

• End-of-chapter pass: listen to the chapter once before marking it done.
• Dialogue check: dialogue that sounds wrong read flat is wrong.
• Fatigue: when you’ve reread a scene so often you can’t see it, hearing it resets your attention.
