Collections and Tags
Folders hold each record once. Sometimes you want a slice that cuts across them — every unfinished Scene, everything tagged revise, the twelve records that matter for the next draft. That’s Collections and Tags.
Collections
Section titled “Collections”A Collection is either:
- A saved search — a query that re-runs every time you open it. “Every Scene with
status:todo”, “everything mentioning the harbour”. - A hand-picked set — records you add yourself, in whatever mix: Scenes, Entities, Tome Notes.
Open Collections from the sidebar. Saved searches stay current as you write; hand-picked sets stay exactly what you put in them.
Query syntax
Section titled “Query syntax”Search (and saved searches) support:
- Free text — matches titles and body content.
- Field filters —
status:done, and friends. - Exclusions —
-harbourdrops matches containing the term.
All terms combine with AND.
Tag anything, then see everything by tag. Tags in the sidebar is the index: every tag across your Manuscripts, Codexes, and Tome, with what carries it.
Tags are stored in each record’s frontmatter — plain text on disk, like everything else.
Which to use
Section titled “Which to use”- One-off question → just search.
- Question you’ll ask again → saved-search Collection.
- Curated working set → hand-picked Collection.
- Lightweight cross-cutting label → tag.
