Tome

The Tome is Trove’s user-wide notes feature: a graph of free-form Markdown files (Tome Notes) with backlinks, wikilinks, and folder organisation. Toggle it from anywhere with ⌘ T; create a note with ⌘ N while it’s open.

The Tome lives at the user level — it is not scoped to one Manuscript. Use it for:

Daily notes and journaling.
Research and reading notes.
Worldbuilding scratch that hasn’t earned a place in a Codex yet.
Cross-Manuscript planning.

Daily notes

Today’s note is one click away: Trove creates tome/daily/<date>.md on demand, pre-filled with the date. A running journal costs nothing to keep.

Each Tome Note is a plain Markdown file. Wikilinks ([[Note Name]]) work between Tome Notes — and beyond them: a Tome Note can reference an Entity or a Scene the same way, and the link shows up in both directions. See References.

Tome vs Codex vs Manuscript

Manuscript — the writable Scene tree for one book.
Codex — structured Entities shared across Manuscripts.
Tome — freeform notes, user-wide, no Manuscript scope.

Three different shapes for three different jobs. The Tome is intentionally close to tools like Obsidian for the notes corner.
